SAFE LEARN in Sweden: International Experience and New Opportunities for Ohiienko University

The team of Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University continues its active participation in the implementation of the international project Supporting Adaptive and Flexible Education for War-Affected Ukraine Students (101236049 — SAFE LEARN — ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE) in cooperation with Ukrainian and European partners.

From March 23 to March 27, 2026, the University was represented in Sweden by members of the project working group:

  • Nataliia Didyk, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Practical Psychology;
  • Oksana Lohvina, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Practical Psychology;
  • Olha Savitska, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Practical Psychology;
  • Tetiana Storchova, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor of the Department of English Language, Head of the Office for International Cooperation;
  • Yuliia Danchuk, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Practical Psychology.

During the study visit to the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, Sweden), the university representatives contributed to the development of educational multimedia content. The work took place in a professional recording studio, where video materials and podcasts were produced for the Resilient Teaching course, which will soon be implemented for the university’s academic staff.

Special attention during the content development was given to trauma-sensitive education. The materials created will become part of the SAFE LEARN online platform and will enhance teachers’ capacity to effectively support students in conditions of increased stress and uncertainty.

An important part of the programme included training sessions focused on modern educational approaches. In particular, Aleksandra Synowiec and Jolanta Konieczny (Silesian University of Technology, Poland) presented innovative teaching practices for flexible and adaptive education. Participants attended the trainings “Neuroeducation and Mechanisms of Adult Learning” and “Designing Learning Activities with the SAFE LEARN Model”, the outcomes of which are already being integrated into the University’s educational process.

Another focus area was the use of art therapy approaches, including exploring elements of hip-hop as a tool for emotional support and creativity development in the educational environment.

The programme also included a series of insightful academic and practical sessions, such as: “Living Lab as a Method for Co-creation in Trauma-Sensitive Education” (Tetiana Gorokhova, Germany); “Learning through Senses – Smellwalk Experience” (Francesca Taufer, SLU, Sweden); “Reflective Writing for Knowledge Process for Social-Emotional Learning” (Alexandra D’Urso, SLU, Sweden).

The presented approaches contribute to rethinking educational practices by focusing on the development of emotional intelligence, interpersonal interaction, and resilience among participants in the educational process.

Participation in the SAFE LEARN project opens new opportunities for implementing innovative teaching methodologies, strengthening international cooperation, and creating an educational environment that not only delivers knowledge but also supports, understands, and inspires.
