On 3 June 2026, the fifth and final training session was held at Kamianets-Podilskyi Ivan Ohiienko National University within the framework of the Erasmus+ project “SAFE LEARN: Supporting Adaptive and Flexible Education for War-Affected Students in Ukraine” (101236049 — SAFE LEARN — ERASMUS-EDU-2025-CBHE).
The event took place at the Youth Center of Kamianets-Podilskyi. The training was delivered by members of the project working group: Yuliia Danchuk, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Practical Psychology, and Oksana Lohvina, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of General and Practical Psychology.
How can learning be transformed into an engaging challenge that motivates, unites, and teaches participants to act in conditions of uncertainty? This was the focus of the fifth training session entitled ‘The Pedagogical Escape Room: Solving Crisis-Related Challenges’, conducted within the SAFE LEARN project. Participants not only explored the theoretical foundations of educational quests but also had the opportunity to view the learning process through the lens of play, collaboration, and problem-solving. They discussed ways of creating a safe and supportive learning environment by applying the principles of Universal Design for Learning and a trauma-informed approach.
Particular interest was generated by the practical aspects of designing educational escape rooms, including the development of storylines, the creation of tasks of varying levels of complexity, the organisation of teamwork, and the use of modern digital tools such as Genially, ThingLink, Canva, and QR technologies.
The participants concluded that a pedagogical escape room is much more than a game; it is an effective educational technology that fosters critical thinking, communication, creativity, and decision-making skills in non-standard situations. The knowledge and ideas gained during the session will serve as a foundation for developing engaging, inclusive, and motivating educational practices in educational institutions.
